Connecting to Your Hub#

Any system that supports OpenVPN is able to connect to the Hub, meaning many devices including computers (Windows/Linux/OSX/etc), phones (Android/IOS/etc), tablets (IOS/ChromeOS/etc) and so on can connect.

There are two types of connections, Users and Servers, and both are treated slightly differently.

Users#

Users can connect to the Hub using any device that supports OpenVPN, and always obtain an assigned static IP address on the overlay network. A User device can only act as network client by default, thus can connect to other hub-connected systems but not listen for connections. However, you can enable sharing for your own device so other systems can connect to your device if you wish. The Managing Users section below describes how to setup Users on your Hub.

Servers#

Servers can connect to the Hub and obtain a static IP address on the overlay network. Further, servers also obtain a public DNS name that can be used for connecting. The IP address that the DNS record points to is on the private 100.x.y.z subnet, and thus is only reachable by other systems or devices that have successfully authenticatied and connected to the Hub. Servers can act as both network clients (making connections outbound) and network servers (listening for incomming connections) and are governed by Policies. The Managing Servers section below describes how to setup Servers on your Hub.
